Eggs are from pairings between unrelated moths; equivalent to “wild.”
Second-brood eggs. The cocoons produced from these eggs should go into diapause, with the moths emerging in April or May under natural conditions.
Foodplants: Walnut and hickory are used by this species here in the spring but both often become too toxic under drought conditions for the second brood. Under drought conditions, second brood larvae (July-August) are best reared on birch, willow, or sweet gum.
Note: Eggs are sensitive to excessive heat: please do not supply an address that delivers to a location in the sun. If the package is delayed and the larvae hatch and die in transit, I will either re-ship or refund the order and shipping charges, because problems associated with shipping are always the responsibility of the seller. Never place food plant leaves in a closed container with eggs. Both the eggs and first-instar larvae of Luna need humidity, but avoid condensation that can drown them. Mist the newly hatched larvae but allow them to dry afterwards.
