Papilio glaucus glaucus -- Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly eggs for sale.
$8 for first dozen + $6 each for additional dozens + $11.00 for Priority Mail shipping.
U.S.A. orders only, please.
Parents of eggs are from unrelated reared Iowa stock (F0), equivalent to “wild.” In this population, most of the females will be the black form. Less than 15% of the females will have the colors of the males (yellow).
Foodplants: I have reared this population on wild black cherry (Prunus serotina), willow (but not all willows will be accepted), ash and hoptree with equal success. Other likely foodplants I have not tried with this population: tuliptree (Liriodendron), apple, other Prunus (plum, cherry), alder (Alnus), catalpa and lilac.
The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly usually has two broods each year here in Iowa., but sometimes they have a partial third brood after a warm spring. These eggs are the beginning of the second brood, so the pupae you raise from them are expected to go into diapause and not eclose until next spring, but note that some of them may have other ideas.
Note: Eggs are sensitive to excessive heat: please do not supply an address that delivers to a mailbox in the sun. Please allow me a full week to ship because the eggs you have purchased may not been laid yet, other orders may be ahead of yours, and butterflies do not lay many eggs on cloudy days. If the package is delayed by USPS and the eggs hatch and die in transit, I will either re-ship or refund the order and shipping charges, because all problems associated with shipping are always the responsibility of the seller.
